Boxes for Faces

Today was EPIC! Though yesterday was my first day in service, today was the first day I talked. I was so nervous! At my first door I had a presentation prepared about the reading the Bible and how it was beneficial. And she goes I don’t have a Bible I’m not religious. Ugh. I didn’t know where to go from there so I just went straight to “if you don’t know anything about the Bible, I can teach you if you want.” And she said yes! I’m going back next Thursday afternoon.

In the mornings we do territory and in the afternoon we do calls and studies because it is too hot to walk for hours. I went on Michelle’s two studies with her. At her second study with a lady named Lady we had an awesome experience! It was her first official study out of the book but she did really well. Lady’s sister-in-law was at her house. She is 18 and her name is also Michelle, sorry it’s going to be confusing. Lol. Come to find out, Michelle’s mom and sister both study and her aunt is almost an unbaptized publisher. We asked Michelle if she wanted to study too. She said no because she is an evangelical (everyone here is evangelical) and Jehovahs witnesses don’t believe in hell. Guess what…? The two gringas disproved hell to her! In Spanish! Let me repeat that, we did it in Spanish and she understood! I just want you to realize how big that is for us! I explained the example of a father who loves his son but when the son makes a mistake he sends him to his enemy and the enemy disciplines him by putting his hand in fire. A loving father would never do that and neither would out creator who loves us. She agreed that that was illogical. Surprisingly she understood everything I was saying and nodded along as I was saying it. Then we wanted to share her scriptures about what really happens to the dead. So she literally ran next door to get her own Bible. We shared Ecclesiastes 9:5,10 and Psalms 146:4. She read them from her own Bible and had no more questions about hell after that but she readily agreed for me to come back on Saturday to explain to her our real hope for the future, on a paradise earth. I was so excited I was jumping the entire way home!

On my first day actually speaking at the door I had 2 studies! I’ve never had two studies at a time. After the studies Michelle and I talked about how we never can come up with the right scripture at the right time and how we mess up so much in Spanish all the time. But we were able to explain deep spiritual truths to someone in a language that is not our own. It’s only by Jehovah’s Holy Spirit and with his help we can do this. It’s so beautiful!

Speaking of messing up in Spanish, I had some dusies today… I called someone’s face a box (face:Cara, box:caja pronounced kaha) I told someone I lived with a bird in Equador (bird:pajaro, couple:pareja) and I saved the best for last. At that study I was so excited about, I told them that Michelle, my friend, drinks blood. Don’t ask, I don’t even know how that happened. But they still want me to come back, maybe that’s how I get studies…

The people we meet make the long hot days worth it! I thank Jehovah and many of you for supporting me and helping me get down here in one way or another. Much love πŸ₯°
